Steinway Upright Piano
I still want to hit my pillow for hours when my phone keeps on ringing. While gathering some wits from my sleepy head, I slowly pick up the phone. My friend Denise, is calling at this wee hour of the night. She told me she had browsed a site which is owned by the 4tepiano company in Detroit, Michigan. She saw a Steinway upright that will surely draw my attention. In fact, I have been searching for an upright for months now. Hearing the one Denise saw is a Steinway upright, makes me suddenly fully awake. I want to pinch myself if I am only dreaming but I am actually awake. I am dying to own a used Steinway upright for a long time. I want to scream with gladness and excitement.
Being born in a family of musicians, everything about musical instruments are worth collecting especially a Steinway upright. Denise gave me the telephone number and told me to call for an appointment before coming over. I mentally note it will be my first appointment the next day.
When I spotted the store few meters away, I pulled over. I breathe the cool breeze of the morning after I opened the car's door. Beaming with excitement, I step closer towards the store. I guess it was been opened minutes ago before I arrived. I slowly swung the door opened. I smiled to the older man whom I suspect is the owner of the store, and had talked over the phone for an appointment. George Michalski has a welcoming smile as he approached me. We shook hands and started my survey around the store.
I gazed at an array of pianos inside the store, while George is explaining things about his instruments. After a fleeting moment, I eyed at the Steinway upright across the room and exactly what Denise told me. I have seen it on their site and is definitely what I am looking for. He noticed where my gaze is leading. He smiled and said I have a great choice in piano. His Steinway upright is one of the best.
We walked across the room. Excitedly, I sit down and start playing. I could feel the heavenly resonance as my fingers are gliding over its keyboard. The instrument produced panoply of shades and colors through touch alone without the use of the sustain pedal.
Since I was a kid, my folks had told me that Steinway sound comes from the selection of the finest materials, and in uncompromising craftsmanship that took place before the war. These are the prime reasons why a Steinway has amazing, powerful sound. A lot of Steinway construction is very technical. So why Steinway pianos are the best? One reason is the sound. There is simply nothing like it.
Undeniably, a Steinway sound is a good classical music with its characteristics, resonant, bass and shimmering upper registers. I have played Yamaha U-3 vertical in the past, which had good feel. But in tone, it fell short of Steinway upright.
I have been a freelance pianist and have been a back-up for some musical concerts in Cleveland and Atlantic City. While I played mostly light rock music and 60's type stuff, I appreciated good classical music and treasured the Steinway sound with its characteristic.
With the experts hands, I played the sections of Fur Elise, then shifted to Mozart's “drawing room” sonata in C Major that contained a lot of rapid scales. From these tests, I concluded that Steinway upright model is far superior in tone compare to other brands.
I have made up my mind. I'll buy this upright. I smiled at George, who is looking at me while I'm playing the instrument. We talked about the price and the course of delivery after the deal is settled.
