Fundraising Trio for rebuilt Bechstein piano

THE BRIO TRIO

The Brio Trio has its genesis in a series of Orchestra Hall fund raising concerts beginning in 1976. The concerts, which were presented in private homes and around Detroit, generated money for the purchase of the vintage Bechstein concert grand piano which was presented to Orchestra Hall on October 2, 1977 at a special invitational concert for the contributors to the fund.

The Brio (rhymes with trio) Trio consists of Brian Schweickhardt (clarinet), Marcy Schweickhardt ('cello), and Bernard Katz (piano). These outstanding musical artists have established themselves firmly in Detroit's musical scene through numerous appearance with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and various chamber music series.

Audience reaction to their performance have been so enthusiastic that the Trio is thought to be considering a "go public" move should their fund raising endeavors conclude. One member of the Trio was overheard to say: "We're having too much fun to turn professional!" That may be the best news yet for area music lovers who want to sponsor a concert in their home.
